Frequently Asked Questions
If I'm driving a two-wheeled moped with a permit, can I carry passengers?
With the provisional licence (foglio rosa) for categories AM, A1, A2 and A, carrying passengers is not allowed.
If I ride a two-wheeled moped with the provisional licence (foglio rosa), do I have to drive on quiet roads?
No, you can drive on all urban and secondary extra-urban roads. The "little-used roads" requirement, repealed by Legislative Decree no. 121 of 2021, is no longer required.
If I have a permit to drive a three- or four-wheeled moped, can I carry passengers?
If there is a seat next to the driver, a person no older than sixty-five must be present as an instructor, holding a valid driving license for the same category held for at least ten years, or valid for the higher category.
Can I drive a 3- or 4-wheel moped if I passed the test on a 2-wheel moped?
Yes, you can drive one. The AM license allows you to drive all types of mopeds, although if you take the exam on an automatic moped (code 78 on your license), you are restricted to driving automatic mopeds only.
