⚠️ What you need to know before choosing
There is one aspect that you should carefully consider, and it is right that you know it right away.
If you have a license with an automatic transmission, you will not be able to drive a car with a manual transmission.
Code 78 is placed on the driving licence, which limits driving to vehicles with automatic transmission only.
Can it be removed?
Yes, and it's not complicated: to remove the restriction, simply take a driving test with a manual transmission . You won't have to retake the theory test , which remains valid.
How to choose
There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but some criteria help:
- If you'll be driving mostly in the city and your car is automatic, an automatic transmission makes a lot of sense.
- If you plan to use family or rental cars, which often have manuals, consider carefully: you may find yourself limited.
- If clutch problems are holding you back, the automatic transmission allows you to get your license and drive, with the option of clearing the 78 code later.
