Motorcycle license upgrade without a driving test ๐Ÿ๏ธ

From 18 September 2023, you can move up to the next motorcycle category without taking the driving test if you already have an A1 or A2 license.

  • A1 For at least 2 years
  • A2 For at least 2 years
  • A Without exam

โœ… Who can do it

The transition from A1 to A2 , or from A2 to A , is possible under these conditions:

  • You must have held a driving licence (A1 or A2) for at least 2 years.
  • If you start from the A1, this must have been obtained following a driving test and not simply be included in the B license.

๐Ÿ“‹ The necessary documents

  • Driving license
  • Residence permit (if non-EU citizen)
  • 2 passport photos (specifications)
  • Medical ExamYou can get it done directly at our driving school.

๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ How it works

Once we've collected the documents, we apply for a permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles. From there, to obtain a new license, you'll need to complete 7 mandatory hours of driving at a driving school, divided into two phases.

๐ŸŽฏ

There's no final exam. After completing the 7 hours of training, you can proceed directly to applying for a new license.

1. First phase โ€” 3 hours

It can also be done in groups, with a maximum of 5 students.

In this part of the training you will acquire the skills necessary to:

Prepare yourself for safe driving
wear gloves, boots, helmets and any other protective clothing correctly.

Check the vehicle before leaving
Check the condition of the tires, brakes, steering, emergency switch (if present), chain, oil and fluid levels in general, lights, reflectors, direction indicators and acoustic warning device.

Managing the motorcycle when stationary
Place the motorcycle on the stand and remove it without using the engine, walking alongside the vehicle; park it on the stand and dismount, observing the necessary precautions.

Low-speed maneuvers
execution of slow maneuvers, including a slalom, to check the combined use of clutch and brake, balance, direction of gaze, position on the motorcycle and that of the feet on the footrests.

Higher speed maneuvers
A maneuver in second or third gear at a speed of at least 30 km/h and an evasive maneuver to avoid an obstacle at at least 50 km/h. You must also be able to perform test braking, including emergency braking, at a minimum speed of 50 km/h.

2. Second phase โ€” 4 hours

To be done individually.

Here we move on to driving in real traffic. You'll acquire the skills to:

Driving on the road
Starting from a standstill (from a parking lot, after stopping in traffic, exiting a secondary road); driving on straight roads frequented by pedestrians and oncoming vehicles, even in limited spaces; driving on curves; entering and negotiating intersections and junctions; changing direction left and right; changing lanes; overtaking other vehicles and clearing obstacles, including parked cars; allowing other vehicles to overtake you.

The exercises also include roundabouts, level crossings, bus or tram stops, pedestrian crossings, long inclines and declines, and tunnels.

Tackling highways and extra-urban roads
entering, travelling on and exiting motorways or main and secondary extra-urban roads, entering via the acceleration lane and exiting via the deceleration lane.
