Best wishes from all the driving school staff! Seventeen is a significant milestone: starting today, you can start your journey toward getting your license.
You don't have to wait until you're 18 to get behind the wheel.
With Accompanied Driving, you can start driving right away, with an authorized adult at your side, gaining real practice in complete safety.
🚗 How Accompanied Driving works
The starting point is a training course of at least 10 hours of certified driving at the driving school, divided as follows:
- 1 hour Use of the vehicle
- 3 hours Traffic behavior
- 2 hours Night driving
- 2 hours Extra-urban roads
- 2 hours Motorways or extra-urban roads
Total: 10 certified hours
Once the hours are completed, the driving school requests a permit for accompanied driving from the Civil Motorization Office. The application must be submitted by a parent or guardian.
The permit lasts until you turn 18. When you reach the age of 18, it automatically expires—at which point you'll need to obtain a B license.
👥 Who can accompany you
At the time of the request, you will be asked to provide the names of three companions . Only the people indicated on the authorization may sit next to you; no one else, under any circumstances.
Each companion must have held a category B or higher driving licence for at least 10 years .
You may not drive without the supervising driver named on the authorisation. If you are stopped with anyone else beside you, administrative penalties apply.
🚙 What car can you practice with?
The vehicle must comply with the requirements set out in Article 115 of the Highway Code :
- Total laden mass not exceeding 3.5 tonnes.
- No trailer of any kind may be towed.
- Specific power referred to the tare not exceeding 75 kW/t, with the additional limit of 105 kW of maximum power for category M1 vehicles (art. 117, paragraph 2-bis).
- Display of the «GA» sign on a yellow background.
